The Inner Meaning Of The Poem Poison Tree
POISON TREE
-WILLIAM BLAKE
I was angry with my friend;
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.
And I watered it in fears,
Night and morning with my tears:
And I sunned it with smiles,
And with soft deceitful wiles.
And it grew both day and night.
Till it bore an apple bright.
And my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine.
And into my garden stole,
When the night had veiled the pole;
In the morning glad I see;
My foe outstretched beneath the tree.THE MEANING:
Every time when the author is angry with his friend he pours it out to him and finishes the matter ended .But when he had a wrath on his foe or enemy he did not tell it he kept it in himself and acted too much over it. He poured it with his tears and his fears night and day.He provided the tree with sunshine through fake mellifluous words. And with soft cunning tricks. he grew it all day till it bore a beautiful apple.his foe while knowing that it is the author's still stole it. That is author's cruel feelings are those apples then tried tricking the author the author's foe it self got a nice lash up for his cruel intentions as he bit into the apple in the dark night so dark that even the pole star was not visible. The next day morning the author saw his foe lying dead under the tree
THERE RAISES A QUESTION THAT WHY IS THE APPLE MOSTLY CONSIDERED THE UNAUSPICIOUS FRUIT WHY??
--> We can relate this to the story of the Adam and Eve in the holy Bible it is that Adam and Eve the sons of the god are given a place in the celestial garden the gods say that they can do anything there but they should not eat the red bright apples they where happily but Eve tells Adam to pluck out one apple and eat it as Eve tempts Adam so much Adam plucks one and bites into it and all sorrows affect Adam and so the god curses them to live on earth with all of those sorrows.And therefore the apple is considered as the forbidden fruit.
THANK YOU
